Request for Information (RFI): MSRDC is preparing to submit a 2-year pilot project proposal to the federal government and requests information and capabilities from consortium members that service Justice 40 Communities with knowledge, skills, and abilities in Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Program Areas.
Pending an award, MSRDC will establish 3 Justice 40 Training Centers during the fall semester of 2024. Over the proposed two-year project period, each training center will recruit and train approximately 36 students (3 cohorts of 12 students each).
Component 1: University Training Center Establishment: University training partners will be required to have diverse student populations, neighboring partner institution capabilities, industry partner capabilities, onsite training capabilities, and career development and placement capabilities.
Component 2: MSRDC’s Justice 40 Training, Onsite Center Training, and Student Industrial Decarbonization Research Projects: MSRDC will provide a Justice 40 curriculum to be delivered collectively with industry stakeholders. Each training center will adapt the Center for Energy Workforce Development’s (CEWD) Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF 2.0 https://getintoenergy.org/eif-2-0/) training to provide supplementary instruction. Each training center will also provide trainees with onsite training to learn how to approach specific job situations and reflect on how Justice 40 priorities may be applied. Finally, training centers will mentor trainees to submit their own research project for each cohort’s competition.
Project Focus Areas:
Research and development (R&D) and deployment that supports industrial efficiency and decarbonization:
Energy and Emissions-Intensive Industries — Chemicals, Iron & Steel, Food & Beverages, Cement, Paper & Forest Products
Cross-sector Technologies — Decarbonizing Process Heat, Low-Carbon Fuels and Feedstocks, Water and Wastewater, Energy Efficiency Technologies
Technical Assistance & Workforce — Onsite Energy, Better Plants, Energy Management Programs, Industrial Technology Validation, Water Technical Assistance
Institutional Eligibility:
Hispanic-serving Institutions
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs)
Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions
Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs)
Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as the Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply.
