The 2022–2023 season of JUMP into STEM is officially underway – the perfect chance for your students to turn this semester into an opportunity to explore a career in building science.

Just announced, three new challenge topics relevant to today’s industry are ready for student teams to tackle:

About JUMP into STEM and Student Prizes

JUMP into STEM challenges the next generation of building scientists to help solve the industry’s most pressing issues and is open to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students across a variety of majors.

With diversity at the forefront, JUMP into STEM emphasizes the inclusion of an interdisciplinary mix of majors and students underrepresented in science. This means teams consisting of diverse students researching a variety of fields related to the building industry (e.g., architecture, art, engineering, public policy, computer science, economics, communications, business, and more) are highly encouraged. Submissions are due November 11.

Finalists will be invited to present their innovative solutions to this year’s challenge topics during the Final Competition at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in January 2023 and compete for a paid summer 2023 internship at NREL, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, or the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Join the Professor Team! Members of the Professor Team are a critical link connecting students with the competition. This is a great opportunity to meet service-related metrics, form a connection with the U.S. Department of Energy and its national laboratories, and make a meaningful impact on building science education.
