Vibration Excitation Experimental Setup DoD Problem: The protection of the Warfighter requires the development of advanced personal protective equipment (such as masks), novel air filtration and purification technologies, and associated enabling materials/research. Solution: Produce and functionalize piezoelectric polymer nanofibers for biological and chemical-specific surface coating. Outcomes/Benefits: (1) Molecular and species specific, dynamic multifunctional nanofibers and multi-stacked filtration media provide unprecedented protection in respiration, clothing, tents, and other wears (2) the materials work in both air and liquid, and 3) a multiplex platform for sensors that include spectral, temperature and piezotronic sensing. The project was funded and extended for an additional year. Contact Information: Richard Mu, Ph.D. Phone: 615-519-3370 E-mails: [email protected], [email protected]
" I really like the track that you are on. I like the mix of the materials on the bio side and I think it is something that is a need at ECBC and the Army in general." - Jared Decoste, Ph.D., U.S. Army ECBC Scientist
