MSRDC attends National Science Foundation STEM meeting at Bowie State University

The National Science Foundation (NSF) held a workshop for faculty and research staff members from area HBCUs, highlighting STEM-oriented research funding opportunities and technical assistance.  Enhancing the quality of undergraduate STEM education and research at HBCUs as a means to broaden participation in the nation's STEM workforce makes our nation more competitive was the overarching theme of the meeting. Area HBCU Sponsored Program officers were in attendance at host Bowie State University. 

Glenn Hames, MSRDC Engagement Manager shared Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center's recent cooperative agreement and existing research and development opportunities listed on the MSRDC website.  Dr. Anika Bissahoyo, Director, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs expressed that she was excited that the Consortium was finally operational and that it offered a mechanism for HBCUs to receive additional research opportunities that typically get awarded to predominately larger institutions.  Ms. Claudia Rankins, NSF Program Officer, likened the Consortium to some of NSF programs and stressed the necessity for HBCUs to pursue these opportunities.
