Sexual Harassment in higher education is pervasive, harmful, and costly. This has been emphasized by brave women recounting their experiences and by the findings in our recent report on the Sexual Harassment of Women. So let’s get to work developing and implementing approaches that can prevent and address sexual harassment. To learn about promising approaches and innovative ideas or to share ideas about how to prevent and address sexual harassment, join us for the First Annual Summit hosted by the National Academies’ Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment in Higher Education. 

This Summit aims to identify and elevate promising practices for preventing sexual harassment in higher education. Through a combination of plenary sessions, panel discussions, and concurrent sessions, this day-and-a-half event will serve as an opportunity for members of the Action Collaborative and the broader higher education community to gather information, engage in a dialogue, and gain diverse perspectives on how to effectively prevent sexual harassment. Topics covered at the Summit will include:

  • Tackling and Preventing Incivility and Gender Harassment
  • Reintegrating Targets into Research and Academic Spaces: During and After an Investigation
  • Taking into Account the Sexual Harassment Experiences of Individuals with Intersecting Identities
  • Supporting Targets and Preventing Retaliation
  • Addressing the Broader Harms of Sexual Harassment: A Community Perspective
  • Creative Solutions for Reducing the Power Differential between Advisors and Trainees
  • Approaches for Evaluating and Researching how Response Systems are Working for Targets
  • Building Bridges between Academic Institutions and Professional/Scientific Societies
  • Transparency in Communicating Findings of Responsibility and Administrative Action
  • Working Collectively to Tackle the “Pass the Harasser” Problem
  • And more!

Call for Poster Proposals: We welcome you to join us in-person or virtually through an interactive webcast. We also welcome faculty, students, staff, and others to submit proposals for posters on promising and innovative practices to address and prevent sexual harassment in higher education. Space is limited and the deadline to submit your poster abstract for consideration is October 4. Submit your poster abstract.
